Lake Garda’s Foiling Week faced another day of wind unpredictability, challenging both competitors and organizers, as recounted by Maxime Grimard, the class secretary.

The day started with optimism as the fleet launched in seemingly favorable conditions. “We were quite optimistic heading out because the conditions appeared stable and the forecasts promised steady winds,” Unfortunately, the optimism was short-lived. “Regrettably, the wind died down by midday, allowing us only to complete one race. We couldn’t start a second, and the breeze didn’t pick back up in the afternoon, leaving us stuck in the middle of the lake,” he elaborated.

As the winds failed to return, patience was tested but spirits remained unbroken. “After a while, we had to accept that the wind wouldn’t return. We’re now looking to adjust tomorrow’s schedule,” Grimard explained, emphasizing the proactive steps being taken.

The plan for the following day involves an early start to take advantage of the morning winds, with hopes of completing more races in the afternoon. “We’ll discuss this evening with the committee to ensure we offer the best response possible to the athletes tomorrow, likely starting early to make the most of the expected conditions,” he added.

Everyone is gearing up for what they hope will be a more eventful day at one of the season’s most thrilling sailing events.
