Toroa Racing Team
Presentation
Toroa Racing Team was formed in 2020 with the acquisition of boat #009. However due to covid restrictions, the team was not able to travel to Europe to join the circuit and spent that summer sailing the ETF26 in the UK.
The team joined the circuit in 2021 and has raced three full seasons, achieving podium finishes at several events. Toroa has had crew from New Zealand, Great Britain and Austria, including several Olympians from the Nacra17 class, including GB Olympic Team sailors and medallists John Gimson & Anna Burnet, and NZ Olympian and French America’s Cup / Sail GP sailor, Jason Saunders.
Owned by ex-pat New Zealander and ETF26 Class President, Mark Rijkse, Toroa Racing Team is named for the elegant and beautiful sea-skimming Toroa – which means “albatross” in the Māori language of New Zealand.
